Most of us have done a horrible job of managing our household finances. In Delaware and Rhode Island, the average consumer has more than $20,000 in consumer debt and an average credit score of 576. Ouch! Even the states that have the lowest consumer debt average, Tennessee, Virginia, Iowa and Kentucky, have average consumer debt levels of more than $14,000.
It doesn’t have to be that way though. The economic downturn during the last three years has led many to re-evaluate their financial situations and make some changes for the better.
